Professor Parwez Hossain is a leading ophthalmologist based in Southampton and Winchester. He is an expert in treating ocular surface diseases (Dry Eyes, Blepharitis, Pterygium), corneal infections and cataracts. He is especially interested in finding new approaches to manage corneal diseases, which is his current area of research activity. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, has authored several books and is Associate Professor at the University of Southampton.

Professor Hossain qualified in medicine from the University of Aberdeen and went on to train in ophthalmology in Aberdeen, Nottingham, Leicester and Miami, USA. In 2001, Professor Hossain gained his PhD in ocular immunology and biomedical physics. His thesis focused on setting out a new method for in vivo tracking of immune cells in the eye. He has now been at University of Southampton and Southampton General Hospital for the past 13 years,. Here he has established one of UK's leading corneal transplant & research centres and pioneered work on imaging of cornea infections, surgical techniques to reduce corneal vascularisation and improving surgical techniques for corneal endothelial diseases. In 2011 he wrote an influential Royal College of Ophthalmologist surgical technique article on Pterygium surgery.

Professor Hossain has also expertise in the management of cataracts , especially in the context of corneal conditions such high astigmatism, pterygium, Fuchs Dystrophy. In his cataract surgical practice, he has wide experience of using extended depth of field intraocular lenses & toric intracocular lenses to achieve a premium visual outcome.

Professor Hossain has received several awards and grants so far, including funding from the Medical Research Council, British Council for the Prevention of Blindness, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Wellcome Trust. Last year, in 2018 Professor Hossain was awarded the King James IV Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in recognition of his work on corneal diseases and surgery.

Mr Arman Memarzadeh is a highly accomplished and well-regarded consultant knee surgeon who specialises in knee replacement surgery, arthroplasty surgery, knee osteoarthritis, knee osteotomy, ACL reconstruction, and knee fractures. Thanks to this training, he is highly experienced in relation to the management of sports injuries in elite athletes, cartilage regenerative procedures, individualised alignment knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision knee replacement surgery.

One of the main passions of Mr Memarzadeh is personalised knee replacements or individualised alignment. This technique uses robotics to accurately tailor the bony cuts to the patient’s individual anatomy. This leads to a more balanced knee replacement and better functional outcomes. This technique is relatively new and Mr Memarzadeh is only one of a handful of surgeons to offer this procedure in the East of England region.

Mr Memarzadeh has been awarded a number of prizes to date, including the Trinity Cup for the most accomplished trainee, Cambridge Trainee of the Year, and a research grant from Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust. He has published an impressive amount of peer-reviewed articles in established medical journals.
 
Mr Memarzadeh is a keen educator. He is permanent faculty on several national courses including the ORUK Cambridge Basic Sciences Course, and has completed a teaching degree from The University of Cambridge.
